The Hellenic Phycological Society (HEL.P.S.) was founded in 1991 and its headquarters are located at the Department of Botany, Faculty of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It is a non-profit Scientific Society. The aims of Society, as it is reported in the constitution, are “The promotion of the basic and applied phycological research, the organization of congresses and the development of international relationships”. In other words, the development of Phycology in Greece, and the appointment of its advantages, the communication and exchange of opinions between Greek Phycologists, as well as the cooperation with other phycologists in the world. Moreover, the promotion and growth of Phycological Education in Schools and Universities, in order to help the young Greek Phycologists to work in a better scientific and professional environment and further develop Phycology in Greece, in both basic and applied research.
