Enter the fortified city through the Amboise Gate and walk to the Palace of the Grand Masters. You'll tour the interior of the palace as your guide points out the 14th century beginnings of the Central Courtyard and chambers decoratively built with colonnades and early Christian mosaics. You will continue down the Street of the Knights, its paths paved with colorful marble and superb mosaics, past medieval towers and emblazoned facades.
You will have some time to do some shopping at the bazaar before returning to your hotel.
Island Tour – Full Day
This tour offers you a perfect opportunity to see the Island with its interesting landscape and numerous villages. We begin the tour with a drive along the West Coast of the Island bringing us to Mount Filerimos where we will visit the Acropolis of Ancient Ialyssos, our Lady’s Monastery and the remains of Athena’s Temple.
Continuing our drive we arrive at Monolithos, here we will stop to take photos of the Castle of Monolithos and the magnificent view that is visible from this point.
Next we arrive to the Village of Siana, the village built amphitheatrically at the foot of a rocky hill and a panoramic view of the coast & the little Greek islands. We will see a Byzantine Monastery & try to the local special drink of Suma & the local honey made by the villagers.
The village of Embona may not have any picturesque architectural features, however, it is one of the most popular suggestions for a trip inland in Rhodes that combines folklore, a lively atmosphere and good food. It is a village full of life all year round with several tavernas serving people who come here from all over the island to taste the delicious local meat plus it is the most important grape-producing village on Rhodes. You will visit the largest winery in the village, Emery, and sample the local wines. Finally, we will make our way to one of the meat tavernas and enjoy a lunch filled with typical Greek delicacies. Departing Embona we will visit Agios Nikolaos Foundoukli, the fourteenth-century Byzantine church with its interesting wall murals. On the drive towards Eleousa passing through the cool, green forests we reach the 7 Springs, the scent of pine, the rustic bridges & trickling streams make an ideal setting. Those who want to rise to the challenge can wander around the maize of footpaths searching out the source of each of the seven springs.
